What About All Those Evil Christians?

PleaseConvinceMe Podcast 221

My experience being part of groups, of different kinds, falls into the 10-80-10 rule.

10% take an active role in the group.
80% are members as long as they see a benefit, but will never take any active role beyond merely membership.
10% are troublemakers that do not represent the group and the group is better off if they just went away, except if you got rid of them they'd still cause trouble.

The goals and ideals of the group cannot be fully understood by observing the 80%, let alone the 10% of troublemakers.

Many of the flock are sheep or lambs, they need support, need constant leading and will probably always need help of one kind or another compared to the mature. This doesn’t mean they’re necessarily being disobedient, but it shows Christians mature at different rates and unfortunately sometimes never... but they’re still Christians.

And even those who are true Christians can for a time be still carrying so much baggage from their past they may appear to be bitter and argumentative, but they’re still Christians.

And looking to the NT times when the Apostles were the excellent role models of their era, we even then see the ongoing problems in the churches with in-house frictions and the like. But the majority were still true Christians.

So we really need to look to Jesus Christ Himself as to what a perfect person really is and how a man full of love and wisdom really acts. Otherwise Christians and the world will very often be disappointed by looking to the people of the evangelical churches to find out what true Christianity is.

However Christians who want to honour their Lord in everything should seek to imitate Him in everyway and let the world see that true Christianity still does exist on the earth today.

Yes Trent, between your comment and mine I think its clear the Church is far from where it should be. And evil Christians are not Christians at all. But again the focus should be on our leader the Lord Jesus Christ for it is by Him that the goodness of Christianity should be judged and therefore Christianity is seen to be truly good... as He is truly good.
